the escalation is going to go on for some time. and to that extent it is going to push oil and energy prices higher in the very short term, mandy. but if you go beyond that and if it is going to be a conflict which comes to an enwithin a week and there is a reasonable settlement, the longer term impact on oil prices is actually downward because you see the global growth slowing. the european debt crisis, fiscal cliff, they're all negative for the oil price. >> the worst case fear is that iran could get involved. is that something the investor needs to take care of? >> i don't think the investor can build that into his expectation so that is clearly a risk. so they have to watch it and expect the oil price to be up in the very short term but the investor should basically look for the oil price to be lower if they are looking forward six months or 12 months ahead because you're looking at a slowing global economy and push downward on commodity prices or energy included. >> david, what's going to happen in the next six weeks of the year? >> well, i think people are going to be very worried abou

another popular energy drink is now under fire. >> the fda is investigating five hour energy drinks. and it is possible that it is linked to more than a dozen deaths. >> abc2 news linda so is live this morning with the details. linda, how many people have died from this? >> reporter: over the last four years the fda has received reports that 13 people have died all possibly linked to the five hour energy drink. this comes just a couple overweenings after the fda consider of weeks after -- of weeks after the fda began investigating five deaths possibly linked to monster energy drink. you'll remember the parents of the 14-year-old hagerstown girl was suing the maker of monster energy saying the caffeine in the drink criminated to her death. that -- contributed to her death. that girl went into cardiac arrest after drinking two 24- ounce monster drinks in a 24 hour period. the fda says five hour energy has been mentioned in about 90 filings with the agency and 30 of them include serious of life- threatening injuries like heart attacks and in one case a spontaneous abortion. the drink i

in general. if you want to understand what the oil market has been this year and energy market in general, two key relationships. the first is between wti and brent. we have seen that thread work out to all-time highs. i believe right now december on december, is about $23. meaning the price of brent is $23 higher than price of wti. that can be explained by what came out of the report today. there's a shift taking place. obviously supply in the united states is at highs. and cheap oil in general is a very bullish thing for commodities. where cheap oil begins to become a problem like in 08 is if it's associated with weak economic growth. we need to keep that balance very close and watch that as we head throughout the week here. cheryl: john, one thing i will say as a caveat there is that the weather, which is always unpredictable looking like it is going to be a really rough winter, heating oil, things like that, are you making bets in those markets now? >> you know, it is funny because if you look at hurricane sandy and what it's done, i think short-term heating oil, reformulated gasoline
